Obituary of Peggy J. Schnars

Peggy J. Schnars, 78, of Donelson Rd., Jamestown, passed away on Monday, Dec. 27, 2021 at home surrounded by family. A lifelong area resident, she was born May 3, 1943 in WCA Hospital, the only child of the late Robert A. and A. Beatrice Carlson Olson. A 1961 graduate of Jamestown High School where she participated in the acapella choir and band. She was a 1963 graduate of Jamestown Community College where she was involved in the drama club. In her youth she was an avid roller skater and ice skater. When she was 18 months old, she started roller skating and had her picture taken with Lucille Ball in 1944 at Celoron Skating Park. Before her retirement in 2005, she was employed by Jamestown Community College as a senior library technician for 24 ½ years. Prior to that, she worked at Empire State Mutual Life Insurance Company until her first son was born. In her high school and college years she worked at Sears and Grants Department Store. She was also an alternate election inspector for the Town of Busti for several years. She was a member of NYSLAA for 15 years and current member of the Vikings, Lakewood Rod & Gun Club, and Thule Lodge. She was a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church where through the years she served as a Sunday school teacher, lector, greeter, and home communion assistant. She was baptized, confirmed, and married at Immanuel. Her hobbies through the years were knitting, gardening, and interest in birds. The lights of her life were her grandchildren, whom she dearly loved. She loved attending all their school and sport activities. She could be seen at all her grandsons' football, baseball, wrestling, basketball, and soccer games and also at her granddaughter's dance recitals, volleyball, basketball, soccer games and track events. She will be remembered as a loving and caring mother and grandmother who loved to spend time with her family. She is survived by her husband Ron Schnars, whom she married June 10, 1967; two sons: Shawn R. (Ann) Schnars and Todd M. (Jen Benson) Schnars; four grandchildren: David (Paige) Tapia, Austin Schnars, Kylie Schnars, Donovan Schnars; one great-grandson, Leo Tapia; her aunt Eleanor Swanson and aunt Joan Carlson; and several cousins.
