Obituary of James T. Potter
James T. Potter, 69, of Ashville, NY, passed away at his home, January 8,2022, following a lengthy illness.
He was born May 13, 1952, in Louisville, KY, the son of Thomas C. and Dorothy B. (Eisenbeis) Potter. Jim moved with his parents to this area in his teens and graduated from Southwestern High School. He went on to graduate from Jamestown Community College and Fredonia State College with a bachelor's degree in fine arts. Before he needed to stop working, he was employed by the former Flickinger warehouse.
Jim was a member of the Hillcrest Baptist Church. He especially enjoyed joining other men of the community on Saturday mornings for bible study, and later meeting at his home due to his illness. He was an avid reader, a long time Buffalo Bills fan, an excellent cook, and enjoyed spending time with his dogs. Jim had a wonderful dry sense of humor. During his illness, when asked how he was doing, he would always answer, "amazing, remarkable, marvelous, stupendous, terrific, and humble"
Surviving are his wife, Jan R. (VanStee) Potter, his children: Amy L. Potter of Jamestown, Jennifer (Nicholas, II) Rastelli of Grand Island, NY, Kyle J. (Megan) Potter of Pittsburgh; 7 grandchildren: Aubrin Penhollow, Alanna Mesler, Samuel, Hannah, and Grayson Rastelli, Jaxon and Alec Potter; as well as 5 great grandchildren: Hailey, Luke, Evain, Evelia, and Evangeline. He is also survived by his sisters Martha Clarke (Robert) of Wyoming and Barbara Potter of Ashville, who was his neighbor and best friend.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Carol Smith of Pickerington, OH.
A small memorial service celebrating Jim's life will be held Friday, January 14th, at Hillcrest Baptist Church at 3 pm. The Rev. Mark Hinman, pastor will officiate.
Memorials may be made to the Hillcrest Baptist Church, 40 Hallock St. Jamestown, NY 14701 or to Options Care Center, 560 West Third St. Jamestown, NY 14701.
Condolences may be left at www.lindfuneralhome.com.
As Jim would say as leaving, "I'm glad you got to see me".
