Obituary of Dean R. Oberg

Dean R. Oberg, 72, of Snyder, NY, passed away on Saturday, January 22, 2022, in Roswell Park Cancer Institute, Buffalo, NY. He was born June 6, 1949, in Jamestown, NY, a son of the late John C. and Marian Magnuson Oberg. Dean was a 1967 graduate of Southwestern Central School. For over 30 years he worked for Health Care Plan, now Univera Healthcare, in the IT and web development department. Dean was an avid lover of music. He was a singer and songwriter and had a passion for creating his own music. He also enjoyed playing at open mics and with several bands. He had a special love for the Beatles, the Byrds, and Diamond Rio. He also had a longtime love of model and amateur rocketry and was a member of The National Space Society, The National Association of Rocketry, and The American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics. Dean had a quick wit, a great love for family, a drive for researching family history, and a kind and compassionate spirit. Surviving is his wife of 47 years, Ruth F. Volkert Oberg, whom he married February 23, 1974, his children; Carrie Goetz of Bennington, NY, Jason Oberg of Snyder, NY. He is also survived by several cousins, nieces, nephews, and extended family. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, John A. Oberg, Randall Oberg and a sister, Joyce P. Saxton. Family and friends will be received from 5-7 pm Thursday in the Lind Funeral Home where masks must be worn. Burial will be in the Sunset Hill Cemetery.
