Obituary of Rosalie Marie Gullotti

Rosalie Marie Gullotti, 88, of Jamestown, NY, passed away at 4: 10 am Tuesday, February 1, 2022, in her home with her heartbroken family at her side. She has been an area resident since 1942, when she moved from Trenton New Jersey, at nine years old. She was born September 13, 1933, in Harding, West VA, a daughter of the late Pietro "Peter" and Gesua DeMarco Giambrone. She was a longtime active communicant of Holy Apostles Parish at St. John Catholic Church where she was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society and the Catholic Daughters of America Rosalie had a full and rich life making a beautiful home for her beloved husband Al and her family. She was a dedicated mother and treasured her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She took special joy in the youngest members of her family and always would indulge them with treats, fun stories and games. When the oldest grandchildren visited, she had a way with making a feast out of refrigerator leftovers, and then reminding their "Poppi" that their pockets needed a little "greenery". She also loved reminiscing and telling them stories about her colorful childhood memories and "Little Rascal" antics from her early years living in the ethnic ghetto of Trenton, New Jersey during WWII. Somehow repeated stories never grew old to her listeners. On holidays, Rosalie could be depended on for creating a lavish multicourse buffet of delicious foods and desserts. Her baking and cooking talents were not limited to her family, she always made sure her friends were generously gifted with some favorite baked goods during various occasions. Although her family admits she is a tough act to follow, her baking legacy has inspired her children and grandchildren. She also shared her talents with her church community where her husband and her were a vital part of a lost generation of fellow parishioners that devoted many hours in service to keeping their church strong and flourishing. For many years she would organize and lead a group of "workers" in making thousands of delicious cannolis to be sold at the annual Italian Festival and the St. Joseph's table spaghetti dinners. For several years she also recreated an Italian café complete with many Italian desserts and beverages. Although it was all hard work, it was a labor of love and service to her church and God. Sadly many of these friends are gone and she missed them, but her family takes comfort in knowing she had her beloved Al and a large welcoming committee at the pearly gates. Rosalie's life was not all work, Rosalie also cherished her husband and the trips they took and experiences they had exploring foreign lands and cultures and visiting relatives. Her photos albums are many. She had a passion for gardening and spent many joyful hours tending her flowers, her vegetable garden, her fruit trees and her manicured yard. And anyone was welcome to help as long as they followed her strict instructions. These last 2 years had been tough and Rosalie missed the friends she loved so much. She looked forward to their weekly breakfasts after mass with many friends and her special friends Diane, Gus and Emily, and their outings to the Casino. She also missed her weekly visits to her friend and hairdresser Kathy. Rosalie was also very grateful for the blessings God had bestowed on her and was a generous supporter of many charities. The children of the Smile Train and the St. Labre Indian School in Montana had a special place in her heart. Most of her life can be described as a labor of love. She leaves a legacy of hard work, selfless love and devotion to family, friends and faith. She will be missed. Surviving are her four children; Samuel P. (Kim) Gullotti, Alfred D. (Cheryl) Gullotti, Susan (Roy) Gullotti Bishop all of Jamestown, Sharon (David Lundsten) Gullotti Tefft of Lakewood, NY, ten grandchildren; Samuel Gullotti of Baltimore, MD, Jacqueline Gullotti of Buffalo, NY, Chad (Jenna) Gullotti, Melissa (Shane) Johnson, both of Jamestown, Lexy (Scott) Baglia of Waxhaw, NC, Christopher Bishop of Denver, CO, Andrew (Julie) Bishop of Amherst, NY, Rachel (Andrew) Mattison of Lakewood, NY, Cassandra Tefft of Lakewood, NY, Stephanie Tefft of Jamestown, NY, and 12 great grandchildren. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 69 years, Alfred A. "Al" Gullotti whom she married June 16, 1951, and who died February 4, 2021, three brothers, Andrew, Michael, and Ernest Giambrone and two sisters, Carmelina Griffis and Mamie Centi. Her family wants to extend their boundless thanks to her 2 special caregivers, Michelle Bair and Barbara Dale who not only attended to her physical needs when she was her sickest, but enriched her life with their big personalities and loving devotion. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am Saturday, February 5, 2022, at Holy Apostles Parish at St. John Catholic Church. The Rev. Peter Zaczynski, pastor of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Lakewood, NY, will be celebrant. Entombment will be in the Holy Sepulchre Cemetery Mausoleum. Friends will be received from 5-7 pm Friday in the Lind Funeral Home where masks must be worn.
