Obituary of Brian L. Swanson
Brian L. "Doc" Swanson, 81, of Bittersweet Dr. Jamestown, NY, passed away at 8:50 pm Tuesday, April 5, 2022, in UPMC Chautauqua.
A lifelong area resident, he was born February 26, 1941, in Jamestown, NY, a son of the late Raymond O. and Lucille M. Lee Swanson.
He was a boy scout leader and paperboy as a young kid, he graduated from the former Bemus Point High School and attended Jamestown Business College.
Doc proudly served his country and his community all of his life. He was a 22-year veteran of the U.S. Navy, including service during the Vietnam War, earning the rank of Sr. Chief Corpsman.
Before his retirement, he was employed by Valeo Engine Cooling for several years and following retirement he worked for Jamestown Radiologists.
Doc was known for his commitment as a member the Fluvanna Fire Department. He had served as President and Treasurer for many years and was also an EMT. Over the many years he had responded to over 3000 calls throughout the Fluvanna area and was named firefighter of the year. He was also an active member of the War Vets Recreation Club where he was a past President and Auditor and volunteered for many activities over the years.
Surviving is his loving wife, Barbara Allenson Swanson whom he married January 31, 1966, two children: Keith A. Swanson of Lakewood, NY, Amy Ackerman of Nederland, CO, two grandchildren: Brian J. Swanson (Samantha) of Falconer, NY, Kevin Ackerman of Nederland, CO, a brother, Bruce L. (Sarah) Swanson of Hobe Sound, FL and a former daughter-in-law, Cinnamon Swanson of Jamestown, NY.
The funeral will be held at 1:30 pm Saturday at the Fluvanna Fire Department. The Rev. Robert Benson, Fluvanna Fire Department Chaplain will officiate. Burial will be in the Fluvanna Cemetery.
Friends will be received from 2-5 pm Friday in the Lind Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Fluvanna Fire Department, 3536 Fluvanna Avenue Ext., Jamestown, NY 14701.
