Obituary of Jean T. Carnes
Jean T. Carnes, 87, of Jamestown, NY, passed away at noon Monday, May 2, 2022, in UPMC Chautauqua.
A lifelong area resident, she was born January 29, 1935, in Jamestown, NY, a daughter of the late Russell and Josephine Constantino Trunzo.
Jean was a graduate of Jamestown High School
Before her retirement, she was employed as a secretary for the Jamestown Public School System working in several schools and later retiring from Fletcher Elementary School. Jean loved her job, working with all the staff and especially caring for the students. In earlier years she had worked for the former Proto Tool Company.
She was a communicant of Holy Apostles Parish at St John Catholic Church and a member of the Viking Lodge, and the Lakewood Rod & Gun Club.
She will be remembered as one who loved to travel and enjoyed spending time with her friend's and family. Jean loved her family dearly. When she wasn't with them you could likely find her with her card groups or club girls, "The Gourmet Girls", a group of girls she has been a part of since high school. She always enjoyed stopping at Tim Horton's for a double, double and a muffin. Jean loved to entertain, and very rarely had an empty house. She loved having company and was an incredible hostess. She ensured that everyone was well fed and well taken care of. Whether that be making coffee and serving treats from Ecklof's or serving her famous homemade pizza.
Jean loved to travel and took every opportunity to do so. She was always impeccably dressed from head to toe, every detail from her shoes to her handbag. She always found time to knit or crochet a beautiful afghan or dishcloths for her family and friends.
Surviving are two sons: Jeffrey (Jane) Carnes of Frewsburg, NY, Jason Carnes of Bemus Point, NY, four grandchildren: Jeffrey Carnes, II of Jamestown, Ashley Carnes of Ashville, NY, Jacob Carnes of Frewsburg, Abbey Carnes of Portland, NY, a great grandson: Marcel Van Sickle as well as several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Frank G. " Fondy" Carnes who died November 7, 2019, two sisters, Josephine "Babe" Moore, Rose Marie Venable, a brother, Nick Trunzo, and her niece, Johneen Venable Berry.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am Friday at Holy Apostles Parish at St. John Catholic Church. The Rev. Todd Remick, pastor will be celebrant. Burial will be in the Holy Cross Cemetery.
Friends will be received from 4-6 pm Thursday in the Lind Funeral Home where a Christian Wake Service will be led at 3:45 pm Thursday.
