Obituary of Dominic A. Gullotti

Dominic A. Gullotti passed away on Sunday, May 15, 2022 at his home with his son and daughter in law beside him. He was born on December 2, 1933 to parents Samuel Gullotti and Sarah Gullotti (Mazzurco). He grew up in Jamestown and lived here all of his life. On September 12, 1953, he married the love of his life, Nicalene L. Gullotti who passed away on November 28, 2021. They were married for 68 years. They had one child, Daniel T. Gullotti, who resides in Jamestown with his wife, Sandra L. Gullotti. Dominic was a master woodworker. He was employed by Crawford Furniture for over 35 years, where he worked in the finishing department and as a final inspector. He also previously worked at Jamestown Furniture Manufacturing in Celoron. Although he did not graduate from high school, he was one of the smartest people and could build, fix or repair anything. He had a special talent when applying finishes and lacquers to wood, making the wood come alive. Despite having difficulty with reading in his younger years, he taught himself how to read more and more. He enjoyed reading the newspapers every morning and also many fiction and non-fiction books as well. He was a self-made man who did not depend on others to do things that he could do himself (which was mostly everything). Together with his father in law, Samuel LaValle, he largely built his own home in Jamestown. In his childhood, he spent countless hours at what was then known as the Boys Club. He excelled in athletics. He could pick up any type of ball and appear as natural as any other athlete. He was a golden gloves boxing champion when he was a teenager. After marrying Nikki, he was inducted into the United States Army from 1956 to 1958. Nikki traveled to Colorado Springs, where he was initially stationed, and then to Stuttgart, Germany where they resided together for three months. This was after Nikki wrote to his commanding officer, inquiring about the possibility of joining Dominic in Germany. The captain wrote back to Nikki that the chance of this happening was "very remote, in fact almost impossible". He did not realize how determined Nikki could be. They travelled to Switzerland and Italy during this time. He was fiercely devoted to his family and, especially his wife, Nikki, who he struggled mightily to care for in her later years. Family was everything to Dominic. As he was growing up, he had many siblings and there were family picnics, Christmas Eve's, dinner's out with his brothers and sisters, as well as spending much time with Nikki's large extended family. Nothing was more important. He is survived by his son, Daniel T. Gullotti, and daughter in law, Sandra L. Gullotti, two grandchildren, Rebecca and Jacob, his brother, William S. Gullotti, sister Jeanette (Gordon) Carlson, and many, many nieces and nephews. His passing leaves a void in the lives of those who loved and knew him which will be impossible to fill. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Carl Cappa, Alfred Gullotti, Frank Gullotti, Herbert Gullotti, Joseph Gullotti, Sebastian (Busty) Gullotti, Samuel Gullotti, and his sisters Mary Prinzi, Anna Gullotti, Sarah Gullotti and Carmela Gullotti. In accordance with Dominic's wishes, he desired cremation and there will be no service or visitation observed. A celebration of his life and that of his beloved wife, Nikki, will be held on Sunday, June 19, 2022 at the Allen Park Men's Club from 1:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. All family and friends are invited to attend. Dominic's family would like to extend a special thanks to Chautauqua County Hospice and Palliative Care and all the caregivers with Terry Lynn Best.
