Obituary of Barbara M. Kost

Barbara M. Kost, 94, of Jamestown, NY, passed away on Monday, July 18, 2022, in the Heritage Village Rehab and Skilled Nursing Facility. A lifelong area resident, she was born February 25, 1928, in Jamestown, NY, a daughter of the late Roger K. and Beatrice Swanson Mason. She was a 1945 graduate of the former Celoron High School. Before her retirement, she was a bookkeeper for the Geer-Dunn Company for 30 years. Barbara was an active member of the Kiantone Congregational Church where she passionately served the Lord. She was a member of the Ladies Aide Society, the Breast Cancer Support Group, and the Kiantone Senior Citizens. Barb loved cooking, quilting, and teaching Sunday school and never turned down an opportunity to volunteer within her church. Always willing to put others before herself, Barb welcomed family and friends into her home with a wide smile and open arms. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were her greatest joy, and she left a legacy of love with each of them. Barb was fond of traveling alongside her husband, Andy, whether the destination was across the country or simply staying close to home at their summer cabin. She spent many winters down south and summers picnicking and fishing with her family. When home, Barb could be found cooking or baking in the kitchen, knitting, or crocheting, or tending to her flowers outdoors. Touched by all that knew her and spent time in her company, Barb will be missed dearly here on earth. However, we can rejoice knowing that she is free of pain and confusion and living in her heavenly home with her Savior. Surviving are two sons: Robert A. (Gail Davis) Kost of Kiantone, John "Jack" A. (Sandie) Kost of Russell, PA, three grandchildren: Bobbie Jean Barto, Daniele Skeats both of Frewsburg, NY, Robert A. Kost, Jr. of Gerry, NY, seven great grandchildren: Gary and Joseph Schwartz, Madeline, Natalie, Owen, Ivan, and Estella Skeats. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew Kost, whom she married June 25, 1949, and who died May 26, 1998, a grandson, Alex Kost, a sister, Betty Peterson, and brother and sister-in-law, Roger, and Priscilla Mason. The funeral will be held at 1:30 pm Friday, July 22, 2022, in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Mel McGinnis, pastor of the Kiantone Congregational Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Sunset Hill Cemetery. Friends will be received from 12:30 to 1:30, one hour prior to the service in the funeral home.
