Obituary of Rose Marie Ognibene

Rose Marie Ognibene, 92, of 220 Southwestern Drive, Lakewood, formerly of 632 Hazzard Street, Jamestown, died Sunday August 14, 2022, in UPMC Hamot, Erie, PA. A Jamestown native, she was born May 10, 1930, a daughter of the late Sebastian and Bessie Armele Russo. She was a 1949 graduate of Jamestown High School. Prior to her retirement she was employed by the Foster Grandparent Program serving at Fletcher School. She earlier had worked for the Town Club, Fairmount School and Hills Department Store. She was a communicant of St. James Catholic Church. She was a woman of strong faith and loved her family. She loved to cook and bake, welcoming and feeding all who came to her home. You never left her home hungry. The family would like to thank Brookdale for their wonderful care during her stay and UPMC Hamot for all the exceptional care and concern during this difficult time. Surviving are two daughters Michele Ognibene of Jamestown and Marlene (Tim) Sandberg of Warren, PA; grandsons Matt (Danielle) Sandberg of Hollidaysburg, PA, Nathan (Amy) Sandberg of Warren, Adam (Jessica) Thorn of Buffalo and Tom Thorn of Jamestown; six great grandchildren; two brothers Salvatore (Diane) Russo of Braden, FL and John Russo of Port St. Richie, FL and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Thomas Ognibene, whom she married May 24, 1952, and who died March 26, 2018; a daughter Mary Ann Thorn who died August 14, 2020; brother Anthony Russo and sister Carmella Ferrara. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am Friday in St. James Catholic Church. Burial will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Friends will be received from 3-6 pm Thursday in the Lind Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to St. James Catholic Church, 27 Allen Street, Jamestown, NY 14701.
