Obituary of Janis E. Ruslink
Janis Evelyn Ruslink, 94, of Jamestown, NY died Thursday, August 25, 2022 at UPMC Chautauqua.
Janis was born in Jamestown, NY on January 10, 1928 to the late David A. and Gertrude Carlson. She graduated from Rahway High School in Rahway, NJ in 1944. She later graduated from Packard Secretarial School in New York City. She worked as a secretary, first in Manhattan, until she returned to Jamestown in 1952, and then at Falconer Central School. She married Philip Ruslink in 1955 at First Covenant Church in Jamestown. They were married for 63 years, until Philip's death in 2018.
Janis was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Jamestown, where she served as an elder, a long-time member of the Chancel Choir, past president of the Women's Association, and a member of Circle 4. She was also a long-time member of the Mozart Club and sang in the Mozart Chorus. Janis joined the Jamestown YWCA in 1952 upon returning to Jamestown and remained active in various ways throughout the rest of her life.
Janis is survived by her three daughters: Paula (John) Bidwell, of Kenmore, NY; Judy (Paul) Bentley of Jamestown, NY; and Susan (Greg) Kellogg of Lakewood, NY. She is also survived by six grandchildren: Susan (Tyler) Gustafson of Lakewood, NY; Adam (Mary) Bidwell of Gahanna, OH; Ian Kellogg of Jamestown, NY; Jennifer Bentley of Washington, DC; Sarah Bidwell of Buffalo, NY; and Drew Kellogg of Columbus, OH; and two great-grandchildren, Emerson Bidwell and Ezra Gustafson.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Gretchen Humphries, and a brother, D. Bret Carlson.
The funeral will be held on Thursday, September 1 at 1 pm in the Bellinger Chapel of First Presbyterian Church, Jamestown. The Rev. Robert J. Hagel will officiate. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery.
Friends will be received from 6 pm to 8 pm Wednesday at Lind Funeral Home and Thursday in the Fellowship Hall of First Presbyterian Church following the funeral service.
