A lifelong area resident, he was born July 4, 1954, in Jamestown, NY, a son of the late James S. and Genevieve Ann Reale Calanni.
Carl was a communicant of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Lakewood, NY, where he enjoyed putting the weekly bulletins together with Father Joe. He was musically inclined and loved playing the organ and piano. Carl was a history buff and had a passion for reading especially Time and Smithsonian magazine. He also loved spending the holidays and Sunday dinners with his family where there was always delicious homemade Italian food and cookies.
Carl is survived by a sister, Carol Proestler of Jamestown, two brothers, Anthony Calanni of Jamestown, James Calanni of Buffalo, NY, a niece, Lisa, great niece, Kaitlyn, and three great nephews, David, Roger, and Zachary. He was also very close to his friends Barney and Neil at the Resource Center.
In addition to his parents, Carl was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Elizabeth Calanni, and brother-in-law, David J. Proestler.
The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the Resource Center group home where Carl resided. He enjoyed all the employee's company and participating in all the planned activities over the years. The staff at UPMC Chautauqua, who for the last four months provided superb care to our loving brother and uncle, we would like to thank them as well.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am Tuesday, October 18, 2022, in St. James Catholic Church. The Rev. Todd Remick, pastor will be celebrant. Burial will be in the Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
