Obituary of Athena B. Dimitri
Athena B. Dimitri, 83, formerly of Colfax St. Jamestown, NY, passed away on Wednesday, November 23, 2022, in the Lutheran Home and Rehabilitation Center.
A lifelong area resident, she was born August 9, 1939, in Olean, NY, the only daughter of the late Themistocles "James" and Antigone "Helen" Petro Dimitri.
She later moved to Jamestown, NY and was a graduate of Jamestown High School and attended Jamestown Community College.
Before her retirement, she was an account manager for the Bank of Jamestown, which later became Key Bank, where she worked for 35 years.
She was a lifelong member of the St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church where she sang in the choir and was a Sunday school teacher for 30 years and a member of the Ladies Erene Society. She was also a life member and a past officer for the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority.
She will be remembered as a very loving and caring sister, aunt, and cousin, and a Godmother to many. She helped support her mother and three brothers due to the passing of their father. Her greatest joy was her family. She planned many family reunions celebrating the decedents of her immigrant grandparents, George, and Olimbia Petro. She loved children and enjoyed sharing the accomplishments of her 20 nieces and nephews. She was one who loved to travel and enjoyed her trips to Europe and New York City, to watch her favorite singer, Tom Jones, whom she was able to meet personally. She was also an avid Buffalo Bills fan and loved her cats Casper and Tommy.
Surviving are her three brothers, James R. (Karin) Dimitri of Salem, CT, L. Michael (JoAnn) Dimitri, John A. (Julie) Dimitri both of Fredonia, NY, as well as her special nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held at 11 am Wednesday, November 30, 2022, at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church. The Rev. Soterios Rousakis, pastor will officiate. Burial will be in the Lake View Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 4-7 pm Tuesday, November 29, 2022, in the church where a Trisagion Prayer Service will be led at 7 pm Tuesday.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church. P.O. Box 264, Jamestown, Ny 14702-0264.
