Obituary of William E. Spence

William E. Spence III, died peacefully Friday, December 2, 2022, at UPMC Montefiore Hospital, Pittsburgh, PA, lovingly surrounded by his family. A native of Philadelphia, PA, he was born March 19, 1958 to Frances Gagliano Spence Walsh and the late William E. Spence, Jr. William was a 1976 graduate of Frewsburg Central High School and went on to earn an Associate's Degree in Business Administration from Jamestown Community College. Prior to William's retirement in March 2022, he was employed for many years by Aspire of Western New York as an Intake/Waiver Funding Coordinator. William was a member of the Westfield Family Physicians Advisory Board and the Busti Church of God. He previously gave of his time working with the Downtown Jamestown Development Corporation and the YMCA Battle of the Businesses. He also enjoyed volunteering for the Lucy Desi Museum and various local charity events. William's passions included promoting the education of organ and blood donation with others by organizing work place drives with Connect Life (UNYTS) and the Red Cross for over 14 years. He loved family-time, cherished time spent at his children and grandchildren's performances and sporting events with a special place in his heart for youth hockey, music from the 70s and 80s, electronic gadgets, and recreational photography. William is most known for his genuine personality, sense of humor with contagious laugh, and opening his home, heart, and generosity to others. Surviving are his mother and stepfather Frances and Patrick Walsh of Greenhurst, NY; his wife Carrie Egger Spence, whom he married April 26, 1986; five children Christopher (Teah) Spence of Lancaster, NY, Katie Spence of Lakewood, NY, and Courtney Spence, Kyle (Jordan) Spence and Kenzie (Nathanael) Ferguson who are all of Jamestown, NY; eight grandchildren Dakota, Alexei, Emma, Sophea, Elena, Graham, Ethan and Easton; two sisters Patricia Estus and Debbie Heitman and three brothers Gerald Spence, John Walsh and Steve Walsh; and his beloved dog Maddy. William was preceded in death by his father. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 11:00am Saturday, December 10, 2022 at the Busti Church of God. Family and friends will be received in the church for one hour prior to the service and also following the service to share a fellowship meal.
