Obituary of Roy H. Underwood
Roy H. "Jitters" Underwood, 82, of Jamestown, NY, passed away on Monday, December 26, 2022, in the Heritage Green Rehab and Skilled Nursing Facility.
A lifelong area resident, he was born April 8, 1940, in Jamestown, NY, a son of the late Earl Charles and Helen Lindquist Underwood.
Before his retirement he was a truck driver for the Buckeye Biscuit Company and had also owned and operated "Roy's Place" in Greenhurst, NY.
Surviving are five children; Douglas (Kristine) Underwood of Jamestown, NY, Denise Ross of Jamestown, NY, Deborah (Timithy) Ostroski of Lakewood, NY, Darlene Young of Falconer, NY, Carol Federko of Jamestown, NY, eight grandchildren; Jaclyn Davis, Morgan Grant, Ryan Underwood, Cole Underwood, Justin Young, Mariah Ross, Brooke Federko, Shane Federko, four great grandchildren; Layla Underwood, Bailey Grant, Rory Grant, Eliana Davis, two sisters; Donna Pacitti of Ashville, NY, Carol Kesby of Highland Heights OH, and a brother; Bruce (Maxine) Underwood of Greenhurst, NY.
Roy was known and loved by many for his contagious laugh and generous heart. He would give the shirt off his back to a stranger. His life was full of many obstacles including several health issues, but he always overcame them all. His late brother-in-law used to say that he had everything except a baby. He was always proud of his five children that he shared with his late wife Cynthia Destro who died in 1995 and he made sure that everyone knew that.
Roy always enjoyed watching sports on TV, especially football and was an avid Buffalo Bills fan for many years. He never gave up on them and passed that passion down to his children and grandchildren. He will be deeply missed by his family but are relieved that he is no longer suffering and is at peace and reunited with past loved ones, especially his identical twin brother, who's passing always left a void in his life.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his twin brother Ray Charles Underwood who died October 7, 1940.
A private service will be held at the convenience of the family. Visitation will not be observed.
Memorials may be made to the Chautauqua County Humane Society, 2825 Strunk Rd. Jamestown, NY 14701.
