To the Thorpe family,
I just returned home from vacation, and sadly learned that your mom had passed away on January 16th. I am very sorry for your family's loss, and will keep you all in my thoughts and prayers at this difficult time. She was such a sweet and kind lady, and I will always have fond memories of both of your parents.
With my deepest sympathy,
Rita Newell

To The Thorpe Family:
Elaine was a sweet lady. Growing up across the street from you all, I remember that she and my mom (Emmaline) would do to keep us busy. I also remember the Bible studies she would have for the neighborhood kids once a week. She will be greatly missed by all. Sending our deepest sympathies to all the family.

Paul, Chuck, Mark, Dan (David),
"Where ever a beautiful soul has been, there is a trail of beautiful memories". Your mom was truly an angel on earth, and now one in heaven. Growing up across the street from 5 boys and a mother who never stopped caring for all of them holds a very special place in my heart. Your mom will be greatly missed.

Elaine was one of my mother-in-law's (Marie Robbins) best friends and Marie enjoyed her friendship very much. Elaine seems to be the last one of the "exercise, coffee and lunch" bunch. Dale and I send our sympathies to you in the loss of your mother and grandmother.

Grandma E will be missed. We never had the opportunity to meet her in person but got to know her over the phone since we lived in Arizona and she was in New York. She was always positive and always asked about our weather here in Arizona. Big hugs to all her family and friends. May she rest in peace.

I first knew about Elaine so many years agi when she was a friend of sister Joanne Conterman Schwarta when they were in high school. And then so many years later was happy to have her son Mark as a second grade student at Fairmount Elementary School when I got to know her. Mark was one of my favorite students in my 28 years of teaching and know it is because of the upbringing he experienced at that time. Mark, so sorry to hear about your mom and think of you still frequently.

On behalf of the Stemple family, I send condolences to the Thorpe family. Our family loved Elaine so much, and we all so appreciated her friendship (and that of the family) during our time in Jamestown. I know my mother would especially be heartbroken to learn of her dear friend preceding her into the arms of Jesus. However, Mom is not far behind...and I'm sure they will both be dancing around the Throne soon. Meanwhile, we grieve for those left behind and pray over you all God's comfort and peace. Elaine was a wonderful example of being a godly woman. Her sense of humor and her faithfulness to our church family. The simple things she did, she did out of love for our GOD!
Rest well in the arms of Jesus, my sweet friend.

My heart is saddened to hear of Elaine's passing. Her heart was filled with love for God, for her church, and for others. Her joyful spirit made everyone around her feel happy to simply be around her. She always made me feel special from the first time I met her when I was only 19. Jamestown has lost a great lady. My prayers to her family and loved ones.

I do not know where to begin. I have so many fond memories of "E." As Randy Anderson said once, she had some set of pipes on her (her lungs, she was a great singer and was always in the choir whenever we had one). She did registration every year for every children's program we ever had from VBS to parties to outreaches. She came faithfully to prayer meeting as well as all of the other services of the church. She was an avid sports fan, a devoted grandmother, faithful wife going to be with Dent almost every day that he was in LSS for years. This was one of my favorite pictures of her with Joan Franzen after helping with registration for some children's event. We also have her on the video that Julia Eppehimer Rexford made for the church's 100th anniversary. I wished that I had gotten up to the home on Prather to see her. She was one of my favorite people. She and Joan Franzen (pictured here) never let me forget the time that I fell asleep while I was praying with them. And I was the one praying! I know the last years were very hard on the family, I hope you can heal and look back on the many good memories now. Even still, I feel a hole in my heart with her parting. God bless the Thorpe family.
