Obituary of Mary D. Morton
Mary D. Morton, 89, of Ashville, NY, formerly of Cocoa Beach, FL, passed away at 8:32 am Tuesday, February 14, 2023, in the home of her son and daughter-in-law in Ashville.
Mary was born May 25, 1933, in Fairport Harbor OH, a daughter of the late Arthur Wayne and Julia Culver Dyckes.
In earlier years she and her husband Justin owned and operated Chautauqua Garage, across from the Chautauqua Institution. In 1969 they moved to Cocoa Beach, Fl where they owned and operated the Cocoa Beach Auto Repair Shop for 37 years.
Mary was known as an excellent cook and loved baking. She made pies for the Chautauqua Diner for years and won several awards for baking at the fair. She was a very talented crafter and homemaker and will always be remembered as a loving and caring wife, mom, and grandma.
Surviving is a son and daughter-in-law, Dennis W. (Sheila) Morton who have been her caregivers for the last eight years, her son-in-law, Dennis Ross, six grandchildren, Lisa (Daniel) Burke, Melissa (Jim) Chase, Sandy (David) Cousins, Richard Blose, Josh (Jamie) Morton, Brian Casavant, eight great grandchildren, Meghan (Tayler) Chase, Holly Burke, Madison (Dakota) Chase, Bailey Burke, Morgan McLaughlin, Kellie Cousins, Henry Cousins and Beau Morton, a sister, Audrey Finley, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Justin B. Morton whom she married December 27, 1950, and who died in June 2006, two sons, Lyndon J. Morton, Perry B. Morton, a daughter, Catherine R. Ross, and two brothers, Albert, and Bud Dyckes.
The Morton family would like to thank the staff of Chautauqua Hospice and Palliative Care for their love and support during Mary's final months.
A private service will be held at the convenience of the family. Visitation will not be observed. Inurnment will take place in the Florida Memorial Gardens, Cocoa Beach, FL.
