Obituary of Ann Marie Race

Ann Marie Brechtel Race, 82, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on February 25, 2023. Ann Marie, a daughter of the late Chester and Angela DeFazio Brechtel, was originally from Archbald, PA and moved to the Jamestown area in 1961 with her then husband Bill Race after he accepted a coaching and teaching job at Falconer Central High School. Ann Marie spent many years taking care of others. She was an amazing server at the Lakewood Rod and Gun for over 15 years. Prior to that, she worked as a teacher's aide in the special education department in the Southwestern Central School District. Most recently Ann Marie worked for the Resource Center where she took care of the adult residents for over 10 years! Her entire life was serving others! The one great characteristic about Ann Marie is you always knew where you stood with her. She was absolutely not afraid to tell you how she felt or what she thought about you. She loved her great grandchildren, her grandchildren and her daughters, Ellie Hartnagel and LeeAnn Sunderlin and her son Billy Race. They brought so many smiles to her when they visited. She loved hearing stories or watching videos of all her grandchildren playing sports, snowboarding, or raising their families of their own. If there was a card game to be played, she was in on it. She loved being outside, she loved the comforts of her home, and she loved raking leaves during her favorite fall season! Ann Marie is survived by her daughters LeeAnn Sunderlin, Ellie (Craig) Hartnagel, both of Jamestown, Billy (Naomi) Race of Salisbury, NC. And Ex Husband Bill Race and former son-in-law Bill Sunderlin, both of Jamestown, NY; 5 grandchildren, Carly (Chelsea) Belmonte of Rexford, NY, Billy (Victoria) Sunderlin of Jamestown, Matt (Michelle) Sunderlin of Vass, NC, Brechtel and Kyann Race of Salisbury, NC. Christopher Hartnagel of Boston, Massachusetts; 3 Great Grandchildren Huxley Sunderlin, Rhett Sunderlin, Shaye Belmonte; a brother Fred Brechtel of Archbald and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by a brother John Brechtel and a sister Mary Narcavage. A Celebration of life will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to Paralyzed Veterans of America at pva.org or Victory Junction at victoryjunction.org. You may leave words of condolence at www.lindfuneralhome.com.
