Obituary of Iris J. Moore

Iris J. Moore, 93, formerly of Lakewood, died Wednesday April 5, 2023, in UPMC Chautauqua after a brief illness, surrounded by her family. She most recently lived at Memory Garden. She was born April 7, 1929, in Basel, Switzerland, a daughter of the late Alfred and Leonie Stehle Jecker. She was educated in Switzerland as a pediatric nurse. She came to the United States in the early 1950s for a visit, fell in love, married and stayed. She worked with her husband Dr. James Moore in their Chautauqua County medical practice for years. Surviving are four children Kathleen Moore of Jamestown, Suzanne Moore of Winston-Salem, NC, Jack Moore of Lawrence, PA and Thomas Moore of West Seneca, NY; three grandchildren Andy, Greyson and Jordan Moore; a sister Beatrice Bentz Dole of North Dartmouth, MA; and her niece Helena Hartnett and her nephew Martin Bentz of New Bedford, MA. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. James Moore, who died October 11, 2010. She loved her children and grandchildren. She loved nature and all animals except snakes. She was very kind and had a great sense of humor. She was quite active and adventurous in her younger years, such as swimming across the Rhine River with the boys in Switzerland. She continued to be very active throughout her life and enjoyed traveling with her children. She was especially proud to become an American citizen. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
