Obituary of John M. Brustrom

John M. Brustrom, 72, of Jamestown, died Monday April 10, 2023, at UPMC Chautauqua after a brief illness. A life-long Jamestown resident, he was born January 18, 1951, a son of the late Lawrence and Jean Thompson Brustrom. He was a graduate of Marvelwood High School in Cornwall, Connecticut. He continued his education at SUNY Fredonia and graduated from there with a Bachelor's and Master's Degree. He also had a Mechanical Engineering Degree from the Rochester Institute of Technology. Prior to his retirement he was a teacher at Sherman Central School and most recently a professor at the Triangle Technical College in Erie, PA, organist at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Warren, PA, and business manager at Our Lady of Loreto Church. He was a communicant of Our Lady of Loreto Church, a member and accompanist for the Viking Male Chorus, and co-president of the Audubon Nature Photography Club. Photography was John's passion. Surviving is his wife of 48 years, Mary Grace (Cross) Brustrom, whom he married July 19, 1975; a sister Justine (Jim) Magee; sister-in-law Sandra Tomlinson; nephew Mike (Tammy) Tomlinson; nieces Emily Stocking and Katie Sheperd, nephew James Magee; six great nieces and nephews Jake, Luke, Nick and Nate Tomlinson, Skylynn and Bryce Tomlinson, and his beloved dog Trixe. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his in-laws, Kenneth and Mary Cross, brother-in-law Robert W. Tomlinson, and his nephew Robert K. Tomlinson. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am Monday April 17, 2023, in Our Lady of Loreto Catholic Church. Friends will be received from 1-3 pm Sunday in the Lind Funeral Home.
