Obituary of Michael N. Benson
Michael N. Benson, 71, of 1738 Dewey Avenue, Jamestown, died Tuesday April 18, 2023, in his home.
A lifelong area resident, he was born February 27, 1952, in Jamestown, a son of the late Albert and Vivian Freeburg Benson.
He was a 1970 graduate of Southwestern Central School.
Prior to his retirement he was employed by Niagara Mohawk and later National Grid as a lineman for 38 years. He loved his job, especially out of town storms. Starting at 12 years of age he worked at Benson's Country House as a dishwasher and worked his way up to chef.
He was a member of Lakewood Rod and Gun Club and Chautauqua Lake Fishing Association.
Mike enjoyed sharing his cooking talents, boating on Chautauqua Lake, golfing, and time spent with the JHS Marching Band Crew.
Surviving is the love of his life, whom he met at Embers Restaurant, Jacqueline Bull Benson and they were married May 26, 1973; two children Elaine (Kevin) McKain of New Smyrna Beach, FL and Brock (Maria) Benson of Gig Harbor, WA; four grandchildren Masen and Baily McKain and Justin and Teigan Benson; a brother Todd Benson of Clermont, FL and several nieces including Stacey (David) Krespan Elderbroom of Charlotte, NC, with whom he was especially close.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son Michael Chad Benson; brother Gary Benson and sisters in law Cheryl Benson and Linda Bull Krespan.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 am Wednesday in the Lind Funeral Home. The family requests any flowers that are sent be perennials which will be planted around Mike's house to be enjoyed for years to come.
Inurnment will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery.
Friends will be received from 4-6 pm Tuesday in the funeral home.
