Obituary of Debora A. Hasson
Debora "Debbie" A. Hasson's journey through life ended at the age of 62 on Monday, May 15, 2023, at home, surrounded by family after a brief but courageous battle with NASH. She was born August 1, 1960, in Jamestown, NY and was the daughter of the late Raymond M. and Margaret A. (Wheeler) Start, Sr.
She was a 1978 graduate Panama Central School and later graduated from Jamestown Community College and received her master's degree from University of Phoenix in Education.
She was an Early Head Start teacher for 29 years and Program Manager for Foster Care through GA Family Services. She served her community by devoting her time in the Ashville Fire Department as an Interior Fire Fighter, EMT and president. She dedicated her life to people in need, especially children. Debbie was a part of the Chautauqua County stress debriefing team and was one of Chautauqua County contingent team members that responded to ground zero in the days following 9-11. She also was a North Harmony Girl Scout and Summer Rec Leader.
She is survived by her husband of 26 years (August 23, 1996), Ronald P. Hasson. 6 Children, Lisa Hoch of Falconer, Ron Jr. (Rachael) Hasson of Frewsburg, Wendy (Matt) Ryan of Ashville, Brian (Ganna) Hasson of Getzville, NY., Billy (Junior the dog) Hoch of Fort Bragg, NC., and Jody (Matt) Chapman of Ashville. 7 Grandchildren, Peyton, Sammy, and Winnie Ryan of Ashville, Alex Hasson of Frewsburg, and Adrianna, Liam, and Finn Hasson of Getzville, NY. Brother, Raymond M. Jr. (Patty) Start of Washington, NC, Diane Start of Bemus Point, and Cindy (John) Pierce of Westfield. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews, that she cherished. Her furbabies Babygirl and Maverick.
She was proceeded in death by her parents (Maggie – 1987 and Ray- 2011), her sister Winnifred Start (1980), and a close niece Tammy Fain (1984).
Debbie was the "go-to" person that would be there for anyone in need. She was noted for being the matriarch of the family. She was dedicated to the wellbeing of all children. She loved life, people and was a formidable force in all things she did. She enjoyed anything water, whether it was cruises, fishing, swimming, snorkeling, or beaches. Skydiving on her 50th birthday was her ultimate extreme memory.
She touched so many people throughout her life and helped more people than the family could have imagined. The overflowing stories and impacts she made in people's lives were made apparent through the duration of her sickness. Debbie's main focus in life was family, friends, and the importance of having them both.
Debbie wanted to donate her body to science or be an organ donor but was unable to due to her illness. She was able to volunteer to participate in a new study that may aid in future liver disease patients.
At Debbie's request there will be no visitation or funeral, instead there will be a Celebration of Life where we will share memories and shenanigans had, to be held on Sunday, June 11th at 1:00 PM at the Ashville Fire Department in Stow, NY. Memorials in her name can be sent to the Ashville Fire Department at 5338B Stow Road, Ashville NY 14710, or Arise Chautauqua (at risk females for anti-trafficking and anti-abuse) at 218 W Falconer Street, Falconer NY 14733.
The family would like to thank the staff on 5D and special care at UPMC Chautauqua as well as the staff on the 5th floor at UPMC Montifiore.
