Obituary of Edward G. Liddell
Edward Gleason Liddell, Sr., passed away at the age of 90 on Friday, June 2, 2023, at his home, Long Point Farms in Bemus Point, New York. He was born on February 21, 1933, to William Liddell and Ruby Edith (Haskin) Liddell. He is preceded in death by his parents and three sisters, Mary Jane Johnson, Florence Quattrone, and Doris Jones.
Throughout Ed's young life, he was a member of the 4-H Club and Future Farmers of America. He was a graduate of Bemus Point Central School. Ed proudly served in the United States Army from 1953 to 1955. During his military career, he was stationed in Japan and earned the rank of Corporal. When he returned home, he worked for the Pepsi-Cola Company. This is when he met and married Janet Marie Rasmussen on February 17, 1956. This year, Edward and Janet celebrated their 67th anniversary. Together, they purchased their farm in Bemus Point where they raised four children. They worked hard and had a passion for the land, farming, and animals. Over the years they had Belgian Draft horses, dairy, and beef cows. In addition, they made maple syrup and they always loved gardening. Ed was a true outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Ed was a member of the Farm Bureau and Jamestown Masonic Lodge. One of his many hobbies included his extensive coin collection and he was the treasurer of the Jamestown Coin Club. He was an avid reader and was frequently seen sitting in the kitchen with a book in his hand. Ed was an athlete who excelled as a basketball player. Later in life, he liked watching his children and grandchildren play sports. When he semi-retired from the farm, he became a bus driver for the Bemus Point School system.
Ed loved and adored his family and is survived by his wife and three sons: Edward (Gale) Liddell, Jr., Todd (Becky) Liddell, Douglas Liddell; and a daughter, Elizabeth Heberle. Ed is proud of his eleven grandchildren: Joshua (Chantelle) and Kiel (Angela) Liddell, Logan, Skyler and Nickara Liddel, Daniel and Bradley Heberle, Christina (Justin) Kinney, Michael Liddell, Victor and Corrine Cardinale; five great-grandchildren: Paxton, Paesyn, Brock, Palmer and Sawyer Liddell. There will be two additional weddings this year when both Katie Cichocki and Luci Sena will be joining the Liddell family. Edward has many nieces and nephews, along with his Amish friends that he always considered his extended family.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, June 8th in the Lind Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Chautauqua Hospice & Palliative Care, 20 W. Fairmount Ave., Lakewood, NY 14750; Bemus Point Fire Department, 13 Alburtus Ave., Bemus Point, NY 14712; or you can plant a tree for your family in Ed's honor.
