Obituary of John M. Lundmark

John M. Lundmark (Dugan) of Jamestown, N.Y., formerly of Robbin Hill Road, Frewsburg, N.Y., passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on the morning of Tuesday, June 20, 2023, at UPMC Chautauqua Hospital. He was 78. John was born April 15, 1945, the oldest son of the late Everett W. and Frances J. Lundmark of Jamestown. He graduated from Jamestown High School in 1963, then worked for the family-owned John A. Jacobson Dairy Inc. in Kiantone until 1966. He worked for Tri Meadow Dairy and Meadow Brook Dairy for several years after and delivered newspapers for The Post-Journal periodically. After leaving the dairy business, he worked for Treadway Disposal and was self-employed for a short time before working as a part-time cab driver until his retirement around 2013. Dugan had a funny sense of humor and a contagious laugh. He was a proud Swede, and true to the Lundmark name he was a social person who truly loved coffee, donuts, and the newspaper. He always had the best seat in the house at family gatherings, watching over what he loved most: his family, of which he was most proud, especially his 10 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Dugan loved watching them at any of their activities. He also loved NFL football, especially the Buffalo Bills, and watching racing at Stateline and ErieZ Speedway. He had several club memberships in and around the Jamestown area, among them: Lakewood Rod and Gun Club, a social member of the American Legion, Moose Club Lodge 2587, Ingjald Lodge 65, Chautauqua Lake Fisherman's Club and the Vietnam Veterans Association. He was a former member of the Kosciuszko Polish Club (Dunkirk), Exempt Fireman's Association (Dunkirk), VFW (Dunkirk) and Thule Lodge (Pancake Hill). He loved fishing, a herring breakfast, soap operas (The Young and the Restless and The Bold and the Beautiful), and chocolate milk – the heavy chocolate milk that tastes like a melted chocolate milkshake, not this fat free or 1 percent nonsense. Lastly, he had a soft spot for animals, especially those in need, and he leaves behind two cats, Charlie and Wanda. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jeffrey W. Lundmark. Surviving are: a daughter, Teresa (Thomas) Dallas of Jamestown, a son, Jon (Laverne) Lundmark of Lakewood, N.Y., daughter Regina Messina Cherowbrier of Newport, N.C., and stepson Bruce (Jennifer) Johnson of Deltona, Fla.; 10 grandchildren: Tricia (Jeremy) Dallas of Jamestown, Tenille (Nate) Thompson, Tori (Andrew) Dallas, Dylan Lundmark, Macey Lundmark, John Earing, Ashley Lundmark, Allison Lundmark, Lexi Lundmark, and Rylie Cherowbrier; and 4 great-grandchildren: Bryce, Blake, and Camryn Thompson, and Avayana Dallas. He is also survived by a sister, Susan (Greg) Atkins, and a brother, David (Elaine) Lundmark; a sister-in-law, Judy Lundmark; three nieces: Chelsea (Andy) Wells, Katie (Bill) Atkins, and Jenna (Kevin) Lundmark; and a nephew, Jason (Lisa) Lundmark. The family would like to express sincere gratitude to Dugan's medical team, especially Dr. Patrick S. Collins who cared for him many years prior to retirement, and Dr. Amardeep Sapple, who took care of him in his final days. The family would also like to thank the team of nurses and hospital staff for their utmost care. Visiting hours will be held at the Lind Funeral Home from 4-6 p.m. Thursday, June 29, 2023, with a reception to follow at Fluvanna Community Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Chautauqua County Humane Society (2825 Strunk Road, Jamestown, NY 14701).
