Obituary of David S. Soderberg

David Scott Soderberg, of 824 Spring Street, died unexpectedly on Friday, June 30, 2023. He was born on January 30, 1989 in Jamestown NY, the son of Rev. Daniel and Karen (Sisak) Soderberg. His name means, "Beloved of God," and he was much beloved by God and his family. David was a 2007 graduate of Jamestown High School and attended JCC; almost receiving a degree in welding before mental illness overwhelmed his life. From that point, he battled schizophrenia as well as prior addiction issues. David was a kind and sensitive person. In earlier years, he was athletic, excelling in baseball, bowling and skateboarding. He also loved foot-bagging, hiking, especially at the Audubon and the 100 Acre Lot, and making people laugh. His favorite job had been working at Blair in shipping and receiving. He had attended Scandia Covenant Church and First Covenant Church and gone on three mission trips. More recently, David enjoyed drawing, writing and listening to his music. Surviving besides his parents are three siblings: Christopher (Melinda) Soderberg of Columbus, OH; Heather (Lee) Bernstein of Buffalo, NY; Mark (Jess) Soderberg of Jamestown, as well as his nephew, Colin Soderberg, and nieces, Riley Bernstein and Everly and River Soderberg; his grandmothers, Verna Wyche and Dolores Sisak of Jamestown, as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Richard Soderberg Sr. and step-grandmother, Lois, and maternal grandfather, Pete Sisak, and his uncle, Richard Soderberg Jr. His parents would like to thank their family and many friends who prayed for and encouraged David and them through the challenges of mental illness. They would also like to thank the Mental Health Association, Chautauqua County Mental Hygiene, and the Buffalo Psychiatric Center for the many ways that they cared for David. "God is our refuge, our rock and strength, a very present help in times of trouble" (Psalm 46:1) A private graveside service will be held for the family and friends. Rev. Mark Hinman will officiate. Memorials may be made to the Mental Health Association or to Impact Campus Fellowship (40 Hallock St. Jamestown) which David attended regularly.
