Obituary of Barbara Braley

Barbara R. Braley passed away surrounded by family on July 26th at The Atrium at the Village at Penn State, State College, PA. She was 81 years old. Born in Erie, Pennsylvania, she was the oldest child of Hulbert and Helen Roth. She was a proud graduate of The Pennsylvania State University, where she earned her B.S. in elementary and kindergarten education. She earned her Master's degree in education from the State University of New York at Fredonia. In her career as a teacher, Barbara taught at the Lakewood School and for Persell School. Barbara fell in love with George S. R. Braley and they married in 1969. They built a home and raised their daughters in Bemus Point, NY. Prior to retirement, Barbara was an active member of First Lutheran Church in Jamestown where she was honored to serve on the church council. Barbara was also active with Acacia Chapter 96 of the Order of the Eastern Star. Upon her retirement in State College, Barbara joined Grace Lutheran Church and the Penn State University Women's Club. Barbara was well known for her devotion to her beloved dogs. She was an accomplished cook who made a hobby of collecting recipes and cookbooks. Barbara also enjoyed reading. Barbara was a two-time survivor of breast cancer. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and her brother, Howard Roth. She is survived by her daughters, Laura Braley and Kirsten Braley; stepdaughters, Linda Keefe and Carolyn Reifsteck; four grandchildren, Lucia Keefe, Braley Keefe, Rachel Reifsteck and Kayleigh Reifsteck; and sister, Donna Sedelmyer. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
