Obituary of Guy J. Glace
Guy J. Glace, 100, formerly of 131 Howard Street, died Friday August 18, 2023, in Heritage Park Rehab and Skilled Nursing.
A lifelong area resident, he was born June 23, 1923, a son of the late Anthony and Anna Syracuse Glace.
He was a 1941 graduate of Jamestown High School. He was a WWII veteran of the US Army Air Corps serving from 1943-46. He was one of 600 called to duty at Smoky Hill Army Air Base to work with problems with the B-29 Bombers. As a supply technician he earned the Asiatic Pacific, American Campaign, World War II Victory, World War II Occupation and Good Conduct Metals.
He worked in his family's corner store when he was a young boy and after graduation worked as a clerk for Loblaws. After his service in the Army, he worked as manager for Loblaws and Bells for 43 years in Jamestown, retiring in 1985. He was always proud of the hundreds of employees who worked for him during those years.
He was a lifelong communicant of St. James Catholic Church where he served as an usher and was a member of the St. Vincent DePaul Society. He was also a member of Catholic War Veterans, Ira Lou Spring Post 149 American Legion, John W. Tiffany Post 53 VFW, and Commercial Travelers.
Surviving is a son James (Connie) Glace of Jamestown; two granddaughters Nicole (Brian) Talley of Fort Mill, SC and Cassandra Glace of Jamestown and a great granddaughter Taylor Talley.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Martha Sterling Glace, whom he married June 16, 1948, and who died August 14, 2011, and a brother Charles Glace.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Heritage Park for the outstanding care they provided Guy.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am Friday in St. James Catholic Church.
Burial will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
Friends will be received from 4-6 Thursday in the Lind Funeral Home where a Christian Wake Service will be led at 5:45 pm.
