Obituary of Diana L. Basile
Diana L. Basile, 89, of 9 Crane Street, formerly of 133 Chadwick Street, died Monday August 28, 2023, in UPMC Chautauqua.
A lifelong Jamestown resident, she was born August 15, 1934, a daughter of the late Charles and Jeanette Mattay Mordino.
She was a graduate of Jamestown High School.
Prior to her retirement she owned Diana Basile Real Estate.
Diana was a communicant of St. James Catholic Church where she took part in the Altar and Rosary Society and Italian Festival.
She was extremely proud of going to New York City at a young age to pursue her dream of becoming an opera singer. Upon returning to this area, she studied opera at Chautauqua Institution.
While raising her family she was very involved in the PTA and later volunteered at both Jamestown General and WCA Hospitals.
The family wishes to thank Valerie for bringing communion to Diana in her apartment.
Surviving are six children Bruce (Debra) Basile of Jamestown, Mary Jo (Jerry) Foti-House of Jamestown, Linda (Donald) O'Connor of Merritt Island, FL, Jennifer (Christopher) Loomis of Ashville, Sandra (William) Everson of Jamestown and Natalie (Branden) Maggio of Busti; sixteen grandchildren Sarah (Eric) Benson, Eric Basile, Leslie (David) Drayer, Robin (John) Ross, Lisa (Filipe) Chaves, Christina Foti, Allison O'Connor, Andrew O'Connor, Juliann (Michael) Johnson, Amy (Tim) Greene, Morgan Everson, Addie Everson, Nicholas Everson, Masen Maggio, Owen Maggio and Rheese Maggio and eleven great grandchildren.
Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Frank A. Basile, whom she married May 23, 1953, and who died June 20, 2012; sisters Jessie Ingrao, Rose Antonuccio, and Mary Riggi; brother Joseph Mordino and son in law Dr. David Foti.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am Friday in St. James Catholic Church.
Burial will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
Visitation will not be observed.
Flowers are gratefully declined; however, memorials may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
