Obituary of Joyce A. Lind
Joyce A. Lind, 95, formerly of 133 Ellis Ave., Jamestown, passed away early Tuesday morning, September 5, 2023 at Wesleyan Village in Elyria, Ohio.
She was the widow of the late B. Rodney Lind whom she married August 22, 1948 in Jamestown's First Baptist Church and who died November 13, 2011 after 63 years of marriage.
A Jamestown native, Joyce was born September 23, 1927, the daughter of the late William Peter and Dorthey Davis Andersen, and was a 1946 graduate of Jamestown High School.
In earlier years, Joyce was an administrative assistant to Dr. Carlyle C. Ring, former Superintendent of Schools in Jamestown.
Together Joyce and Rodney were members of Kidder Memorial United Methodist Church in Jamestown. They later became members of Zion Covenant Church where they attended for 35 years. Always a woman of strong and devoted faith, Joyce served as a Sunday school teacher, Deaconess, choir member, and was a Bible study leader, hosting studies for women in her home for years. In Ohio, Joyce and Rod joined the First Baptist Church in Elyria in 2004 and attended there for several years.
Joyce served as the First Chair and frequent speaker of the Jamestown Christian Women's Club which included the Jamestown, Clymer, Warren, and Hamburg areas. She later became the first Area Coordinator of Covenant Women, serving for over 17 years in the Jamestown area.
Joyce was active in the PTA of C.C. Ring Elementary, Washington Junior and Jamestown High School. She and Rodney were Music Parents for JHS and chaperoned many A Cappella trips. She was a grandmother volunteer at C.C. Ring School helping children to read, and led a Bible study for teens when her grandchildren were that age.
Joyce enjoyed baking, cooking, and entertaining. She was excellent at everything she did. By far, her greatest joy was spending time with her children, grandchildren, great, and great-great grandchildren.
Joyce's friends and staff at the Wesleyan Village have always called her "an Angel among us". Her family knows she is "The Angel sent to Us".
Surviving is a brother, Col. William C. (Jan) Andersen, US Air Force Ret., of Ames IA; daughter, Bonnie Drake of Jamestown; sons, Terry (Darlene) Lind of Staunton, VA and Kevin (Wendy) Lind of Hayden, CO; and daughter, Mellanie (Michael) Kearney of Elyria, OH. Also surviving are grandchildren Benjamin (Karen) Drake, Julie (Kristian Reiber) Drake, Nathan (Kelley) Lind, Seth (Theresa) Lind, Rachel (Anthony) Janacaro, Noah Lind, Joshua Parschauer, Kara Parschauer, and Rain (Kimmy Hutchings) Kearney. Great grandchildren include Morgan (Canaan) Mohl, Trey, Marley, Micah, Avery and Thomas Drake, Jaymin and Cyrus Morano, James Rodney (JR) and Amelia Lind, Alexa and Lucie Lind, Eva Lind, Lucian Janacaro, and Kaydan Parschauer. She is also survived by one great-great granddaughter, Grace Mohl.
Along with her parents and her husband, Rodney, Joyce was preceded in death by her sister, Shirley in 1951; a great grandson, Trey Benjamin Drake in 2002; a son, Tracy B. Lind in 2006; her brother, Daniel Andersen in 2011; and her son-in-law, Daniel H. Drake, Jr. in 2012.
The funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 9th in the Zion Covenant Church. Benjamin Drake, Joyce's grandson, will officiate. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery. Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in the Lind Funeral Home.
The church service will be livestreamed and can be accessed on the funeral home's website, www.lindfuneralhome.com, where viewers will be routed to the funeral home's website. Those who wish to watch need not have a Facebook account. You may also share a memory or leave a condolence on the website.
The family suggests memorials be made to a charity of one's choice.
