Obituary of Vincent Leo Ahearn Jr.

Born on February 1,1938 in Amityville, NY to Vincent Leo Ahearn and Anna Marie Muller. He attended Rosa Lima Catholic Church in Massapequa where he graduated from Massapequa High School in 1957 receiving many awards for Track and Field events. He worked many summers working as a lifeguard at TOBAY Beach. He was recruited to Roanoke College by Homer Bast for the track team. While at Roanoke he was a member of the Kappa Alpha fraternity. Vincent served in the US Army and trained at Redstone Arsenal and served in Okinawa and received medals for his accuracy while serving on the pistol team. He worked at Kennedy Airport as a customer service representative for Pan American World Airways and developed a desire for travel. In 1972 he moved to Florida and discovered Bonefishing as a new interest. He worked for Tropical Shipping and while there met and married Julia Clark on December 29, 1990. Together they traveled extensively throughout Florida and visited many other destinations while enjoying outdoor activities including kayaking, canoeing and lighthouse explorations. After retiring from the School District of Palm Beach County in the IT department, the highlight of his travel experience was exploring the British Isles by rail and experiencing the mysteries of Stonehenge. In later years Vincent volunteered at the John D. MacArthur State Park where he accrued over 1000 hours of service. His Community Service included volunteering for the Palm Beach Shores Turtle Patrol, the Palm Beach Shores St. Patrick's Day Parade Committee where he became the Grand Marshal in 1999. Most recently he enjoyed viewing the webcams at Sapsucker Woods and the Cornell Campus where he watched the "Big Red" red tailed hawk lay her eggs until the fledged and the TOBAY camera where he spent so much of his young adulthood. "You know you're from Massapequa if" was a delight for him to read and contribute his knowledge of the area to the younger members. Vincent is survived by his wife of 31 years, his wonderful cousins and countless friends. Friends will be received from 10 am to 12:45 pm Saturday in the Lind Funeral Home.
