My world opened up quite a bit when the Payne's moved so close (not even 1/2 a mile down the road) We ran around in the creek, rode bikes, lifted weights, played card games around his kitchen with his family, and a lot of night basketball! He must've dislocated that shoulder at least 3 times during those games; he got pretty good at getting it back in. I don't recall him ever without a smile or quick laugh. I hope some of it rubbed off on all of us as we go forward.

I was so sad to read that Red had passed away. I worked with him for many years and he was a great guy. I'll never forget when he came to my house as Santa for my three dogs. My sincere condolences to Gen and his children. He will definitely be missed by so many.

My condolences go out to Red's family and friends. I had the pleasure of meeting Red while serving with him in the New York Army National Guard. Over the years we became good friends and every time I saw him he was always happy, smiling and somehow made you laugh with his good nature and kind spirit. Red was truly one of a kind. When we where conducting training, I would stop by the mess tent / hall and grab a cup of coffee. I would tell him the coffee taste like someone used their sock as the filter and Red would laugh and say, "I wondered why I was missing a sock." We bowled together on a team in Lakewood, NY and I remember other teams looked forward bowling against us because Red somehow would always do or say something that made us laugh. Red was just fun to be around. Red, I will miss you and cherish the memories you provided over the years!!! Thank you for your service to our country and most importantly, being a friend. My thoughts and prayers are with your family.
Your friend
Scott Anderson or as Red called me "Scottie."

I don’t believe I ever saw Red after our graduation nearly 50 years ago, but I still recall that he always had a smile on his face, and I think he laughed more than anyone I’ve ever known! Red seemed to be a friend to all, and he naturally would bring a smile to your face. It was with great sadness I read of his passing; the good ones always seem to leave far too early. It looks like he led a happy and fulfilled life, albeit too short, and admirably served his country. Rest in peace my old friend, you are fondly remembered! My thoughts and prayers are with your family.

I have known Red for many years. Since we moved to Dutch Hollow Rd, Red and Mike and their little brother would come swimming in our pool. They often had supper with us and we all became great friends. I would still re from time to time at Tops or Valu, we would always take the time to catch up. I was very saddened today to read of his passing. He was a great guy and will surely be missed by so many, specially his dear wife and family. I lift all that family in my prayers today. May God bring comfort and peace to your harts thru Jsus Christ. Such wonderful memories, we all laughed how they had soaped our windows the first Halloween we were there. I will never forget the Payne boys and alway cherish the memory of Red.

I only saw Red once or twice after we graduated but it sounds like a life fully lived. Didn’t see any mention of his culinary skills but as HS seniors I recall him taking great pride in his work as a chef at the hotel restaurant in front of the Rte 17 drive-in.
