Obituary of Virginia Anderson

Virginia Ann Boria Anderson, 83, of Manassas, VA, formerly of Jamestown, died Thursday September 14, 2023, in Manassas. She was the daughter of Theresa M. O'Neill and Piro "Peter" T. Boria. Jamestown is where she lived most of her life and was a "Jamestown Gal" through and through. She graduated with honors from Jamestown High School with majors in 5 subjects. During School, Virginia was very active participating as a flag bearer, sang in A Cappella Choir, danced, and was an avid tennis player. In past years she has served on class reunion committees. Because of her mother's illness with tuberculosis, Virginia was raised by her grandparents Sotir and Thula Boria who were in their early 60's when they provided a home for Virginia, her brother David, and her sister Connie. Virginia worked at many restaurants in Jamestown, starting at a young age, including the Ritz, and during the summer helping to run Pat's Snack Shop in Angola for her father. At 18 she married John H. Anderson. They were married for 17 years and had their daughter Kimberly together. Virginia continued to work during her marriage, including working with her long-time friend, Bunny Salupo-Benedict at the Hotel Jamestown and later at Bud's Carriage House for her friends Pete and Anita Kote. She also had her real estate license and worked for her friends Nancy and Roy Bernhardt for many years. After the divorce from John Anderson, Virginia found a true partner in life in Raymond Tacito. They enjoyed many years of travel, loved to go dancing together and enjoyed merging their families and increasing their friendship circles. They lived together until his passing in 1995. Virginia was the first of her family to receive a college degree, of which we are very proud since it was after an accident when her back was severely damaged, and she needed to redefine her career. After graduating from Jamestown Business College in her 50's, she was hired by Chautauqua Lake Association where she was a key worker in their office. She finally retired just prior to her 80th birthday to move down to Virginia to spend time with her daughter and granddaughter. Virginia was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and worked on their "Meals on Wheels" project. She volunteered for the New York State Narcotics Guidance Council, was a working participant with the Jamestown Civic Ballet, and was active in the Jamestown Red Hatters. The joys of her life included her daughter, granddaughter, and her beautiful home on the corner of Fairmount Avenue and Houston Court where she graciously opened her home to anyone. Her home was always the center of any get-together with friends and family, which she loved deeply. She enjoyed sharing her Albanian heritage, traditions, and food with her many friends and family, and especially loved to bake. She was the glue that held together many of her social and family groups, was considered the matriarch of the "Boria" family and was always a true and kind lady. She is survived by her only daughter, Kimberly Sue Anderson-Gunia (Dan), granddaughter Eva Gunia, brother David Boria, and many lovely lifelong friends. Virginia is preceded in death by her grandparents Sotir and Thula Boria; her mother Theresa O'Neill; her father Piro Boria, her beloved sister Constance Panebianco; her partner Raymond Tacito and many dear friends.
