Alden Smith was the finest man I have known apart from my late husband. He & my husband Norm were friends at Lutheran Skilled Nursing. Alden was one of the few remaining WW2 veterans & we had a reception honoring him in 2018. My husband, Norm & Alden celebrated holidays, watched movies together & told war stories as my husband was a veteran of the Korean War. Most importantly Alden had an involved family. I remember seeing him during Covid with a birthday hat on & celebrating his birthday via zoom with his family. I send my condolences to his family & will miss him. He is in Heaven catching up with my late husband,Norm.

Another sweetheart…. This guy was one of my favorites and I especially remember going to his house because I believe I had two days there for about three hours a week when I worked for Willcare and it was always easy cleaning like, mopping, changing bedsheets..dishes, groceries or going to the laundromat or running errands for him…And I especially remember one of the errands he had me go to Little Caesars and drop off a pizza at his granddaughters house and take out a slice or two for him because he wasn’t able to drive anymore. He sure did love those kids- I felt like Santa because I was constantly leaving bags of treats for the grandkids for him

My deepest condolences to all of Alden's family as you go through this hard time. Alden was such a kind, sweet man who cared a lot about his family. Alden could never remember my name but I tell you what... he knew my smile and that meant so much more to me. As soon as I would smile at him he would say "ahhhh... i knew that was you Irene" Now I don't know who Irene is, but for 2 years that has been my name to that man. We will miss him. Erin Wynn, CNA

Alden's smile and stories of his travels warmed my heart as Chaplain here at Lutheran. His service to our nation and support of other veterans touched many lives. You his family are in my prayers.

Sincerest sympathy to Uncle Alden's family in your time of loss. I have fond memories Uncle Alden from when he would visit with my Grandparents Reed and Mary Smith. I liked hearing his stories of his travels. He usually had some kind of sweet to share with us kids from somewhere he had been. I remember him always being very kind. I last saw him at the family reunion that was held at my parents house (Roy and Deb) in 2014. It was such a pleasure to see him and talk with him. May he rest in peace.
