Obituary of Dennis C. Voty
Dennis C. Voty, 75, of Sugar Grove, passed away Wednesday morning, Oct. 11, 2023 in his home with his wife by his side.
He was the husband of Rebecca Berlin Voty with whom he celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary this past July 25th.
Dennis was born in Warren on Sept 18, 1948, a son of the late Edward and Harrietta "Sugar" Sullivan Voty. He was a 1967 graduate of Eisenhower High School, attended Clarion University and later graduated from Jamestown Business College.
A truck driver, he was employed by Wilcox Hardware in Sugar Grove, D.L. Thompson in Russell, Falcon Transport in Erie, and retired in 2020 as both a driver and trainer from Crossett in Warren.
Dennis had served as a councilman of the Sugar Grove Boro, attended both Gloria Dei Lutheran in Lakewood and Sugar Grove Methodist Church, and was a member of the Teamsters Union and Lakewood Rod & Gun Club.
He played basketball and football in high school and over the years enjoyed hiking, hunting, photography, traveling (especially to DisneyWorld), card games, family time, never-ending Sunday drives for ice cream, road trips with binoculars and bird watching, going out to dinner, doing carpentry and electrical work, family picnics and cookouts, and being a Steelers fan.
Along with his wife, Becky, surviving are two sons, Michael Voty (Trisha) of Busti, Matthew Voty (Kristie) of Jamestown, and a daughter, Nicole Voty (Michael) of Gowanda; and three stepsons, Kevin Vik (Lucy) of Warsaw, Ryan Vik (Anna) of Jamestown, and Andrew Vik (Megan) of Lander.
Also surviving are eleven grandchildren: Allison Voty, Kyle Voty, Ashlee Walrod (Matt), Ethan Powell, Sofia Powell, Madison Voty, Kaydan Bush, Morgan Vik, Mason Vik, Haden Vik,and Braylon Vik; a brother, Randall (Chris) Voty of Sugar Grove and sister, Deborah (Michael) Giambrone of Russell; two brothers-in-law, Ricky (Lil) Berlin of Eustis, FL and Randy (Margaret) Berlin of Busti; many nieces and nephews; and his long-time friends, Steve and Kathy Mahoney of Jamestown.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Thomas and Timothy Voty; mother-in-law, Sandra Berlin; and twin nieces, Cassandra and Jacqueline Giambrone.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Timothy Hoyer will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery. Friends will be received from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation or to Hospice of Erie County Pa.
