Obituary of Mary Ann Carlson

Mary Ann Carlson, 93, of Greenhurst, passed away peacefully Wednesday October 11, 2023, which would have been her 71-wedding anniversary. She was born March 3, 1930, in Jamestown, NY, a daughter of the late Truman and Ursula Branch Marker. Mary Ann was a 1948 graduate of Jamestown High School. She worked as a telephone operator for the Jamestown Telephone Company. Later she worked at Fluvanna Elementary School as a cafeteria monitor. Surviving are her two sons Jeff (Lori Johnson) Carlson of Jamestown, Rick (Becky Alm) Carlson of Hamburg; grandchildren Brock (Kelly), Derrick (Jess), Lindsay (Mike), Tyler, and Jamie; great-grandchildren Mesa, Sara, Anna, Camille, and Clifford. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Clifford Carlson whom she married October 11, 1952, and who died December 27, 2018, and her son Bruce, who died in 1970. She was a long-time member of Thule Lodge, Vikings, Lakewood Rod and Gun, and the Fluvanna Fire Department Auxiliary, where she worked bingo for years. She was also a member at the First Congregational/Pilgrim Memorial Church. In her younger years she was active with golf and bowling, and until recently, she swam at the YMCA. She was an avid reader, loved playing games, and spending time with family and friends. The funeral will be held at 12:00 p.m. Saturday October 21, 2023, in the Lind Funeral Home.
