Obituary of Curtis A. Ecklund

Curtis Alf Ecklund, 84, of 140 Aldren Avenue, formerly of Van Buren Street, died Saturday October 14, 2023, in the Lutheran Home. A Jamestown native, he was born February 27, 1939, the son of the late Alf and Viola Danielson Ecklund. He was a 1957 graduate of Jamestown High School. In his late teens he was a competitive speed skater, winning 5 events at the first Jamestown City Championships and more medals at subsequent meets in Buffalo and Jamestown. His working career began as a truck driver at CMK Auto Parts where he rose through the ranks as counterman and outside salesman until he retired in 1999 from the company as vice president. Retirement freed Curt to do some things he really loved. He and Jeanne had the opportunity to provide care for their granddaughters Anna and Elee and to travel. Curt was always there to help with auto repair and home improvement projects for anyone who needed a hand. He built many storage sheds and pieces of furniture, but he was most proud of the cabin-sized barn he designed and built for the family camp in Gerry. Curt grew up and was confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church and was a longtime member of First Lutheran Church, having served on the Church Council and Property Committee. Surviving is his wife Jeanne Rinaldo Ecklund, whom he married February 18, 1961; four children: Brenda (Greg Stolarski) Ecklund of Sinclairville, Curtis (Christina) Ecklund, Jr., of Pittsford, NY, Daryl (Lorraine Livera) Ecklund of Virginia Beach, VA and David Ecklund of Russell, PA; grandchildren Anna and Evelynn Ecklund, Ashlee McClure and Tyler Watson; and a sister, Millicent Atkins of Bergen, NY. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Mercedes "Mitzi" Swanson. A memorial service will be held at 11 am Thursday in First Lutheran Church, where friends will be received in the church parlors following the service. Memorials may be made to First Lutheran Church, 120 Chandler Street, Jamestown, NY 14701. You may leave words of condolence at www.lindfuneralhome.com.
