Obituary of Frances J. O'Brien

Frances "Franny" Jeanette Freay O'Brien, 88, of Jamestown, NY, passed away November 8, 2023, in her home surrounded by her family. She was the wife of Daniel J. O'Brien, whom she married on July 30, 1955, in Sacred Heart Church in Lakewood, by Rev. Kenneth Mullen. She was born November 11, 1934, in Jamestown, NY, the daughter of the late Grant and Helen Hurley Freay. Frannie was the valedictorian of Celeron High School in the class of 1953 and was active in her class reunions. She worked at the former Bank of Jamestown and volunteered for Meals on Wheels in the Frewsburg area with her best friend Nancy Sinatra for many years. Besides her husband, she is survived by her beloved cat, Billy James; her four sons: Michael (Gayle) O'Brien, Thomas (Shari) O'Brien, Christopher (Julie) O'Brien and John (Kolene) O'Brien; Ten grandchildren: Sara (Nick) Cowling, Hannah (Ian) O'Donnell, Claudia (Jordan) Weingrad, Levi (Deeandra) O'Brien, Ashton (Hayley) O'Brien, Cordell O'Brien, Jenna O'Brien, Daniel O'Brien, Sean O'Brien, and Kylie O'Brien. Ten great grandchildren: Nora, Clare, Elliott, Emery, Aleena, Cullen, Kane, Kaden, Michael, and baby boy O'Donnell on the way. Two sisters, Kathryn Coleman and Shirley Stockwell. Sisters-in-Law, Onnalee Freay and Eileen Rensel. She was preceded in death by her infant daughter Colleen Marie; her parents Grant and Helen Freay and her brother Charles Freay. Frances family would like to thank Andrea Waddington (VNA) and South County Hospice for the extraordinary end of life care they provided. There will be no visitation or funeral service.
