Obituary of Edward Evanczik

Edward Evanczik, 99, formerly of 49 Howard St., passed away Thursday evening, November 30, 2023 at Heritage Park Rehab & Skilled Nursing. A Jamestown native, he was born March 22, 1924, the youngest of seven children of the late Nicholas and Henrietta Dolowa Evanczik, and was a 1942 graduate of JHS. After serving in the US Army from 1945 to 1947, he was employed in 1952 by the Jamestown Fire Department, retiring as Captain in 1983. A member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Ed also belonged to the Morton Club and enjoyed playing golf, doing so until the age of 92. Surviving are two daughters, Cathleen (Larry) Brown of Little Valley, NY and Barbara (Michael) Michalski of Cleveland, OH; two sons, Paul (Barbara) Evanczik of Lakewood, NY and Edward Evanczik of Tucson, AZ; as well as 10 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. Ed was preceded in death by his first wife, Constance Johnson Evanczik in 1989 and second wife, Anhild Carlson Evanczik in August of 2023; and four brothers and two sisters. The funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Timothy Hoyer will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery. Friends will be received from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the service in the funeral home Wednesday. The family suggests memorials be made to a charity of one's choice.
