Matt was a great and funny guy who loved music intensely. I can't forget the time we were suppose to see the Ramones at Fredonia State and Matt knew of this "short cut" which caused us to get lost in Northern Chautauqua County. He will be missed.

I met Matt when I was a freshman and he was a junior at Southwestern High School. He was the badass tom player in the marching band and I played saxophone, and we didn't really hang out. Our relationship changed dramatically when I got a bass guitar that Christmas. Our mutual friend Rob Hansen started a band with the two of us and, after a few lineup changes, Tim Prezipora on vocals. We called ourselves The Age of Stone. It was the first serious band for any of us and was where we really cut our teeth musically. We also became close friends, united in our devotion to Rush (we never covered them because we didn't consider ourselves worthy). We had one original, "Red Zone." I can't recall everything we covered, a few Van Halen tunes (everyone I knew who played in a band at Southwestern could play Van Halen; they were the lingua franca), Led Zepplin, Coney Hatch, INXS, Violent Femmes, Scorpions---a delicious mix of New Wave and hard rock.
Another big part of our friendship was him giving me rides back home from marching band rehearsal. This usually involved getting shakes and sometimes fries at McDonalds, lots of talking (usually about girls or music), and listening to 102FM, which was the pop music station at the time. As much as Matt was into progressive rock, he had a real affection for pop music, and gave me confidence to appreciate that stuff, even if it was totally uncool by Southwestern standards. I'm trying to remember his reactions to various songs when they came on, because they were priceless. Janet Jackson was a mutual favorite, and Whitney Houston (duh).
No ride home would be complete without a trip to "Space Mountain." The ride home involved country roads with lots of hills and no street lights. At the top of a hill, Matt would suddenly say in a rapid staccato "Space Mountain!" and off went the headlights. Fun times!

Matt was a good friend, and an all around great guy. He was definitely taken from this world too soon. I will always remember him fondly.

Matt was such a wonderful devoted father to Danielle he loved her more than life itself. Danielle and I have been friends since we were little and I looked at her like a sister. Matt used to pick us up every weekend and we would watch horror movies until the sun came up. He would do anything for his "girls." Most importantly he cherished the father daughter relationship he had with Danielle, it was so pure and special.
Danielle, you are so unbelievably strong your dad would be so proud of you. Your dad and grandpa are looking over you every day and will always be proud of you. They both loved you unconditionally. I want you to know that you are never alone you can always text me or stop by my house anytime you need something I will be there. I love you forever and always.

Matt was an amazing man! I'm truly heartbroken to hear of his passing. His beautiful daughter, Danielle (DD) as I've always called her, and my daughter Tori, have been friends for 17 years. I remember Matt would pick the girls up every Friday and keep them for the entire weekend. DD was his absolute pride and joy, Matt loved her more than anyone or anything. My heart breaks for you DD, but always know I'm just a call away if you ever need to talk. You're dad has gone on to be with your grandpa, but remember they both will always watch over you and will forever be beside you. I love you to the moon and back my sweet girl.
