Obituary of Carol M. Hallberg

Carol M. Hallberg, 72, formerly of 110 W. Third St. and 103 Cross St., passed away Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2024 at the Gowanda Nursing Home. A Jamestown, native, she was born May 30, 1951, a daughter of the late Charles Robert and Helen Jackson Hallberg. She was a graduate of Jamestown High School and received her bachelor's degree in English (BA) from SUNY Fredonia. Carol owned and operated, with her mother, Carl's Newsroom on Second Street for a number of years. Carol was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church. Carol was a mentor and "big sister" to many troubled youth in the Second Street area. She loved helping kids. Carol was a lifelong, successful survivor of cerebral palsy. Her son, Timothy Hallberg, was the center and light of her life. The loss of her son was the most difficult experience of her lifetime. Surviving is her brother, Robert (Cathy) Hallberg of Jamestown. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Timothy Hallberg in 1995, and a sister, Nancy R. Hallberg in 2005. Visitation will not be observed. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery and a memorial service will be scheduled for a future date. Memorials may be made to Hillcrest Baptist Church.
