Obituary of John W. Marsh
John W. Marsh, 79, of 212 Prospect St., died peacefully Sunday, January 28, 2024 with family by his side.
He was born January 20, 1945 in Corry, PA, a son of the late William M. and Gladys Burns Marsh, and was a graduate of Jamestown High School.
John was employed by several bakeries during his career, starting with being production manager for Firch's Bakery in Jamestown.
A member of the Marco Polo Club, Knights of Columbus, and Lakewood Rod & Gun Club, John enjoyed music, playing Texas Holdem, and watching the Cleveland Browns. He also enjoyed his years in Virginia Beach and visiting the Outer Banks. He loved spending time with his kids, grandkids, great grandkids, and his cats, Snuggles "Snug Snug" and Sasha "Stahsh", who both preceded him in death.
Surviving are 4 children, Lori Koehnlein of Windsor Locks, CT, John Marsh, Jr. (Shawn) of Vernon, CT, Becky Marsh Nelson (Steve) of Jamestown, and Jason Marsh (Robin) of Manchester, CT. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren: John Burton, Nicholas Burton (Heather), Britany Newhall (Ryan), Briana Marsh, Morgan Marsh, Jamie Marsh, Stephen Shurkus (Cheyenne), Jason Marsh (Paige), Alissa Brown (Evan), Mariah Marsh, and Julia Aronson (Antoine); 15 great grandchildren: Nicholas, Emma and Ayva Burton, Chloe Barnard, Walter Oakes V, Kaiden, Kiwi, Piper, Daisy "Deedee" and Blossom "Bean" Shurkus, Everlee Brown, Peyton Marsh, and Quade, Quinn and Ace Aronson; as well as a multitude of friends and extended family, too numerous to mention.
Along with his parents, John was preceded in death by the love of his life, Betty Lundsten Marsh, whom he married June 16, 1962 and who died June 28, 2012; a son, Shawn Marsh; grandchildren, Mathew Burton and Theresa Marsh; and sisters, Audrey Franchina, Autumn Aldrich and brother, Louis Buell.
The funeral will be held at 12:00 noon Saturday, Feb. 3rd in the Lind Funeral Home, led by Rev. Paul Cygan. Burial will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Friends will be received from 10 a.m. to 12:00 for two hours prior to the service in the funeral home Saturday.
