Obituary of Patricia A. Micciche
Patricia Ann Colander Micciche, 78, of Jamestown died peacefully at her home on January 18, 2024. Patricia was born November 16th, 1945, to Fred Jr. and Elsie (Clauson) Colander. She was a fine artist, illustrator, art educator, and friend to many.
Patricia was a 1963 graduate of Jamestown High School and continued her education with a Bachelor's in Art Education from Buffalo State University, followed by a Master's in Art from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania. Her international studies included a semester in Italy at the University of Siena, a study abroad tour in Mexico as well as a trip to South Korea. One of her crowning achievements was a Fulbright scholarship to study in Japan. After her trip she even brought some of the Japanese culture into her classroom at Celeron Elementary by dressing in a kimono for her students during an art lesson. Patricia was the art teacher at Celeron/Southwestern Elementary for twenty years. She also taught classes at the Chautauqua Institution School of Art, the Montessori Children's House of Jamestown, the Jamestown Boys and Girls Club, and the Joint Neighborhood Project. Her interest in children's education also led her to writing. Patricia authored and illustrated a children's book called Muskie Magic and children's poems for the publications Starfish and High Five magazine.
Patricia held many other interests including classical and jazz music, cooking, sewing, interior design, and spending time at Chautauqua Lake and Chautauqua Institution. She also participated in local art exhibitions and occasionally modeled clothing at fashion shows. She especially enjoyed Swedish traditions and traveled to Sweden to learn about her family ancestry. Patricia was passionate about nutrition, alternative medicines, world religions, love, forgiveness, and healing. She believed that true healing came from the heart and incorporated this philosophy into her art and her life. Those that knew her and loved her experienced this firsthand. Her bright soul will be missed, but her legacy lives on through all of the lives that she touched.
She was preceded in death by her twin sister Priscilla Ann Colander who died in infancy, her parents, her first husband, Theodore Freet, her second husband, Gino Micciche, and her brother David Colander. Patricia is survived by her two sons, Skylen (Marion) Freet of Kihei, HI, and Starson Freet of Ashville, NY, and by three granddaughters, Hana, Greta, and Elsie Jane Freet of Kihei, HI. Also surviving are her sister Susan (late Randy) Peterson of Ashville NY, and her brother Daniel Colander of Jamestown NY, numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, stepchildren, and step-grandchildren.
As a fine artist, Patricia left many paintings, some of which are on display at She Sings Café in Mayville, NY. The family will hold a celebration of life at Lind Funeral Home on June 1st, 2024, at 2p.m.. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service from 12 to 2 p.m. You may leave words of condolence/memories at www.lindfuneralhome.com
