Obituary of Ladd L. Cordner

Ladd L. Cordner, "Papa", 75, formerly of Bly Hill Rd., Ashville, passed away Wednesday, February 7, 2024 at UPMC Chautauqua surrounded by family and loved ones. He was born in Jamestown on October 25, 1948, the son of the late Albert F. and Marie A. Milone Cordner. Following graduation from Jamestown High School, he took the civil service exam for the U.S. Government and became a postal carrier in Jamestown, retiring after 37 years of service. Ladd was known for his love of nature and the great outdoors. He was an avid hunter, enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and was well loved in the community. Always smiling with a twinkle in his eye, he was known for his full belly laugh and animated storytelling. He made friends easily and was quick to lend a helping hand to those in need. He'll always be remembered for his deep bass voice, his love of food, and a strong cup of black coffee. Music was a huge part of his life. He sang in the church choir at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, and with the Jamestown Harmony Express for many years along with several different quartets, participating in annual shows and competitions. He was a lifelong member of the SPEBSQSA. Ladd was deeply committed to his faith, also participating in the Koinonia community for several years. Surviving are two daughters, Tina (Ray) Downey of Mayville, and Tessa (Scott) Brozell of Jamestown; a son, Todd (Lisa) Cordner of Falconer; seven grandchildren: Evelyn and Aster Downey, Hunter Gruber, Preston Lanphere, Tucker Campbell, and Dillon and Caleb Cordner; and his sister, Betty (Marshall) Vest of Arizona. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son and a sister, Marie Armele. The funeral will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Timothy Hoyer will officiate. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery. Friends will be received from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home. Ladd always being a very charitable person, his family suggests memorials be made to a charity of one's choosing.
