Bill Olson was a big part of my life, though I hadn't seen him in a while. Bill, Bill McCool and my dad were, at least in my mind, like "The Three Musketeers." The three of them enlisted in the Marine Corps together and initially left together for boot camp on a snowy day in January. They remained part of our lives. Bill always had time to talk to me and share stories. Last time I saw Bill and Jean was at breakfast at Phil-n-Cindy Lunch when I was in town. Bill was there to see me just before I left for boot camp, and came to see me when I got home; he was there for my swearing in ceremony when I was commissioned. He and Jean were at my wedding and came to meet each of my children when we were back in Jamestown. Many find memories.
There is no doubt in my mind that when he got to the Pearly Gates, he snapped to attention, smartly saluted Saint Peter and proudly announced, "Another Marine reporting, Sir."
Rest in Peace, Marine.
