Obituary of Jeanne M. Halaby

Jeanne Marie Halaby, 80, of North Ridgeville, OH, passed away peacefully Saturday, February 24, 2024, at University Hospitals - Elyria Medical Center. She was born May 14, 1943, in Buffalo, NY, a daughter of the late David and Loreene Twichell (Wunch). She was a 1961 graduate of Chautauqua High School and continued her education at Jamestown Business College. Jeanne enjoyed knitting, reading, and spending time with family and friends. She had a natural affinity for children who enjoyed her lighthearted and easy-going spirit and she carried this throughout her life. She also took pleasure in hosting family and friends at their homes including their summer cottage in New York State at Chautauqua Lake. Her heart guided her in everything she did, and her sense of humor was truly unique and kept everyone smiling. In her younger years she was a member at Sacred Heart Catholic Parish in Lakewood, NY and Good Shepherd Church in Henrietta, NY. Throughout her life she was a woman of unwavering faith in God. Before her retirement, she was employed for over 20 years in various administrative capacities at Rush-Henrietta, NY Public Schools and enjoyed working at retail shoppes including gift stores and children's boutiques. She also enjoyed her employment at Hope United Methodist Church preschool and at Sunday school in Greenwood Village, CO as well as welcoming customers and visitors at the Chautauqua Institution Welcome Center, Chautauqua, NY. Surviving is her husband of 56 years, Arthur Hayward Halaby whom she married October 14, 1967; her son Jon and wife Julie Halaby; her daughter Amy and husband Eduardo de Sa and four grandchildren: Brooke and Benjamin Halaby, Caetano and Nadja de Sa and husband Jon; her brother Allan Twichell and wife Marge, her sister Debby Kjornsberg (Twichell) and husband David, and sister-in-law Sally Twichell. She is predeceased by her brother, the late David Twichell and sister Barbara Moffett (Twichell). She is also survived by several nieces, nephews as well as grandnieces and grandnephews. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 am Monday March 4, 2024, at Sacred Heart Catholic Parish, 380 East Fairmount Ave, Lakewood, NY 14750. The burial will be at Sunset Hill Cemetery. Relatives and friends will be received from 3 to 5 pm Sunday, March 3, 2024, at the Lind Funeral Home, 805 West Third St, Jamestown, NY 14701.
