My favorite memory of Jean, and one that spoke to the kind of person she was, occurred when she was 87. My son’s birthday was approaching and she baked him a cake. As Jean put it - “The Lord put the idea in my head, and I put the feet to it.”

Jean Rich was my favorite teacher of all time! When I saw her in the the elementary library, she imparted such wonderful inflection as she read stories that later in my life I did the same--to my children, grandchildren, students. Now, I'm writing children's stories in hopes to pass along that love of books.
She was a great teacher & person who will be much missed. Many prayers for her family. Bless you all...

Miss Munger at Panama Central School. She was only 3 years older than some of her students. I remember her fondly as did my late husband Lester Wevers (class of 1945). They had a fond memory which they both spoke of each time they happened to meet. Miss Munger was in charge of study hall in the library. Apparently she wanted the door closed so asked Lester to “get the door”. He proceeded to remove the hinge pins and carried the door to her.
About that time principal Leffingwell walked in, never said a word and walked back out of the room. It was never mentioned again, except between Jean and Lester. Lester and I were married in 1950, Jean married in 1951

Your mom was a mentor to me when I joined the District UMW committee in the early 1990s. As a woman in my forties surrounded by women in their sixties and seventies, she guided, supported, and affirmed my participation. Hers is the name, face, and generous smile I still remember and am grateful for. Rest well, Jean!

I use to take take of Jean at Heritage Park. She was such a sweetheart! If I did something for her like got her some ice water or took care of her meal tray, she would say, “ Give me your forehead”. I’d bend down and she would kiss me on my head. She had the best laugh and I could always make her smile! I will miss her greatly!

Jean was such a positive influence in my life. I will forever be grateful that God placed her in my path. Jean was my Sunday school teacher to start but became so much more. We laughed we sang. I will miss her so much.
