Obituary of Sarah M. Champlin
Sarah M. Champlin, 90, formerly of Dunkirk, died Friday April 5, 2024, in Tanglewood Manor, Jamestown.
She was born July 29, 1933, in Dunkirk, the daughter of the late Frank and Mary Pompender.
She graduated from Brocton Central School in 1951.
She was an avid painter of watercolor and oils and won many local awards for her paintings. Sarah loved to cook, and she was known for her well-loved pies. She had a keen sense of humor and especially loved British comedies.
She retired from New York Telephone and had also worked for many years at the Dunkirk Observer.
An animal lover and owner of many dogs and cats throughout the years, she supported local animal rescue and adoption organizations. She especially loved her cats, most recently Kelly. She had many friends and enjoyed socializing with them all.
Sarah was preceded in death by her husband Robert and her son Frederick.
She is survived by her daughter Valerie Champlin; nieces Miyrim Ortolano and Maryann Kluch and nephew Alan Shaw.
As she wished there will be no memorial service.
In remembrance of Sarah, donations may be made to Lakeshore Animal Rescue Shelter or Westfield Stray Cat Rescue.
