Obituary of Robert J. Bucklaew

Robert J. Bucklaew, 71, of Jamestown, died Sunday April 21, 2024, in UPMC Hamot, Erie, Pa. He was born August 6, 1952, in Jamestown, NY a son of the late Robert G. and Agnes (May) Bucklaew. Bob attended Saints Peter and Paul grade school and was a graduate of Jamestown High School where he lettered in basketball. He also attended Jamestown Community College and SUNY Fredonia. Prior to retirement he owned and operated Guppy's Restaurant. He earlier had worked for Aitken Products, Madison, Ohio, as a sales engineer and in Naples, Florida as a boat mechanic. He had been a member of the Vikings, Moose Lodge, and American Legion. Bob set the record for the earliest waterskiing of the season on Chautauqua Lake when he performed that feat on March 5, 1974, as was noted in a large article in the Post-Journal. Bob enjoyed boating, golfing, baseball, and basketball. He had several Shetland sheepdogs whom he loved dearly. He is survived by a sister, Patricia Sanders and nephew, John Simmers, both of Ohio, as well as several cousins including David Olson and Patrick May, and many good friends. A celebration of Bob's life will be held at a date to be announced. Memorials may be made to the Chautauqua County Humane Society, 2825 Strunk Road, Jamestown, New York.
