Obituary of Marian L. Leathers

Marian L. Leathers, 88, of 12 Snell Place in Jamestown, passed away Monday, May 6, 2024 at Heritage Village Rehab & Skilled Nursing in Gerry. She was the wife of Donald L. Leathers whom she married November 19, 1955. Marian was born January 16, 1936 in Wellsboro, Pa., a daughter of the late Marsdin and Hildegard Carlson VanOrder, and was a 1953 graduate of Jamestown High School. Marian was a longtime member of the former Immanuel Lutheran Church and was a past member of the Vikings and the Lakewood Rod & Gun Club. She enjoyed golfing with friends at South Hills Country Club and was an avid card player, especially enjoying bridge games with Don and his sisters. Along with raising her family, Marian had worked at various times for Jamestown General Hospital, Girton's Flowers, and Southern Tier Supply. She was a very caring and selfless person who always put others above herself and who loved everyone she spent time with. In addition to her husband Don, surviving are their children, Susan A. (Collin) Smith of Lakewood, and David L. (Shelly) Leathers of Jamestown; daughter-in-law, Judy Leathers of North Carolina; four grandchildren, Melissa (Nick) Palmisano of Syracuse, NY, Shawn Carlson of Jamestown, Eric (Alexa Vazquez) Leathers of Pittsburgh, PA and Alyssa (Michael) Chapman of Marysville, OH; and great-grandchildren, Kyler Carlson, Addison Palmisano and Avery Palmisano. Also surviving is a sister, Sandy (Marv) Oquist and brother, Marsdin "Van" (Jeanne) VanOrder. Marian was preceded in death by a son, Stephen Leathers; and three sisters, Carolyn VanOrder, Lucille Spitz, and Florence Olson. Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the Lind Funeral Home, with a private family service to be held in Sunset Hill Cemetery on Friday.
