Obituary of Robert J. Johnson

Robert J. Johnson, 85, of Ashville, passed away peacefully Wednesday May 15, 2024, surrounded by his family. He was born July 16, 1938, in Jamestown, NY, the son of the late Julius and Mildred Wren Johnson. Robert was a 1956 graduate of Jamestown High School. Following high school, he enlisted into the U.S. Navy from March 4, 1958, until March 3, 1964. Before his retirement he worked at the BPU for several years. Robert enjoyed attending the Panama Methodist Church with his lovely wife of 63 years, Dianne. He was a member of the War Vets, enjoyed picnics, especially a steak fry, and socializing with friends and family. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He spent many hours in the woods chasing turkeys, hunting white tail deer, and feeding the critters out back. When he wasn't cutting firewood, mowing the lawn, planting flowers, or gardening, he was out on the lake fishing with his sister Dee. He will be remembered in our hearts as a kind, loving person with integrity. He was someone you could count on, and most of all he was our stubborn Swede. Surviving is his wife Dianne Feidler Johnson, whom he married April 22, 1961; his two sons: Jimmy (Lisa) Johnson of Randolph, NY, and John (Birgit) Johnson of California; his daughter Kathleen Johnson of Jamestown; five grandchildren: Elyse (Tyler) Henshaw, Ana Johnson (Ryan), Alayna Johnson, Cory Johnson, and Brett (Stacy) Sutherland. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his sister Dee Paulson, his brother Gordon Johnson and several aunts and uncles. A private celebration of life will be held at the convenience of the family. Visitation will not be observed. Memorials may be made to the Panama Volunteer Fire Department, 27 E. Main Street, Panama, NY 14767.
