Obituary of Barbara A. Vandewark

Barbara Ann Vandewark, 86, passed away peacefully June 10, 2024, at her home in Travelers Rest, South Carolina surrounded by her loving family. Born March 5,1938 in Jamestown, New York to Arthur E. Berlund and Katherine A. Clark, Barbara had been a lifelong Jamestown resident until her move to South Carolina in 2022. Barbara is survived by her son, Gary J. Greenland of Falconer; her daughters, Terry L. Flood and Laurie A. Pietras (Scott) of Travelers Rest, SC; and three granddaughters, Cindy L. Saeger (Greg) of Jamestown, Kaitlyn E. Pietras (Jason Thompson) of Los Angeles, CA, and Emily P. Baker (Andrew) of Clemson, SC. Barbara is also survived by four great grandchildren, Alexander Calzone, Austyn Saeger, Adalynn Saeger, and Ferris Thompson. Barbara was a 1955 graduate of Jamestown High School and a 1966 graduate of Jamestown School of Practical Nursing. She worked as an LPN at WCA Hospital for more than 30 years and enjoyed most of all caring for children on the pediatric unit. In her younger years Barbara enjoyed playing her accordion, bowling, bingo, and cribbage. She also made it a priority in her life as Grandma (Mema) of her three cherished granddaughters to attend their school functions, plays, musical productions, and sporting events, After her retirement Barbara became an avid fan of the Buffalo Bills and because two of her granddaughters attended Clemson University, she also became a big fan of the Clemson Tigers Football Team. She loved playing Scrabble, doing puzzles, and bird watching. Barbara's favorite travels with family included trips to the Bahamas, Charleston, SC, Kiawah Island, Los Angeles, and Asheville, North Carolina. Above all, the greatest passion in Barbara's life was spending time with her children, her grandchildren, and her great grandchildren. The family will hold a private memorial service at a later date. Per Barbara's wishes, she will be buried in Sunset Hill Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Buffalo Children's Hospital or the Chautauqua County Humane Society.
